Students in initial teacher licensure programs at West Virginia Wesleyan College are expected to demonstrate the following positive professional dispositions. These dispositions will be evaluated by WVWC faculty , staff, and classroom teachers during field experiences. Failure to demonstrate the following may result in dismissal from the teacher education program.
1. Fairness - Candidate is fair, open-minded and consistent (WV 1, 2, 5)
2. Belief that all students can learn - Candidate accepts and respects that all individuals are diverse and differentiates instruction based on student needs (WV 2, 3)
3. Collaboration - Candidate is collegial and works well with other professionals, is cooperative, and is receptive and responds to constructive feedback (WV 5)
4. Initiative - Candidate actively seeks solutions to problems, goes beyond what is required, is independent a, and is actively involved in learning (WV 2, 4)
5. Approachability - Candidate is respectful, genuine, patient, accessible, and empathetic (WV 3)
6. Emotional Maturity - Candidate is flexible, confident, self-composed, and is socially adept (WV 3)
7. Reflection - Candidate is aware of self, students, and environment; and reflects and evaluates choice (WV 4)
8. Professional Commitment - Candidate demonstrates an eagerness for teaching, exhibits professional commitments, and is committed to life-long learning (WV 4)
